Select “designs” and you’ll see an option to scan a QR code. This is where things get a little tricky. Basically, you’ll need to use an app or site that will convert your image into an Animal Crossing design with an accompanying QR code. Using sites like acpatterns.com, you can convert images into Animal Crossing: New Horizons designs. Then hit “Generate QR Code” in the lower right-hand corner to bring up your image next to a QR code. In the Nintendo App, head to Animal Crossing's Nook Link, go to 'Designs,' and then “Scan QR Code.” You’ll then be able to use your phone’s camera to scan the QR code. Once done, simply hit “save” and it will be uploaded to Nintendo. With the new QR code reader, found in The Able Sisters shop, you can immediately import textures and textiles from other, more talented villagers. The creator of iOS app QR MyDesign Assistant has borrowed this handy new feature to help you turn any photograph or image into an Animal Crossing -compatible code.

This guide will walk you through how to scan QR codes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Scanning these codes will allow you to import external images and textures into your game to customize your island. Whether it be memes, music album covers, or celebrity faces, you can import nearly anything you can think of by scanning QR codes.

Before we start, you will need to have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription in order to do this. It’s roughly $20/year for a yearly individual membership. You can visit the Nintendo Switch Online Pricing Plans to learn more about that.
